Course Requirement

Undergraduate Courses
A good academic record in High School Certificate or 12 years of schooling
Courses such as Computing and Engineering will require Mathematics and /or Science as pre-requisites

Postgraduate Courses
A good academic record in Bachelors Degree from a recognized university is necessary
Any work experience in the field will be helpful
For MBA programs at some Universities students need to have work experience along with their Bachelors Degree

English Language Requirements :
An overall band of 6.0 is appropriate score for Australian Student visa.
Students having low IELTS score can take English Language program called ELICOS.

Course Fees

Australians enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the world - without the expensive price tag. An average international student in Australia will spend about A$ 360 a week on accommodation, food, clothing, entertainment, transport and telephone. Remember, though, that this figure depends on your location, lifestyle and even your course.
International students need to pay the tuition fees up-front. Some institutions may also charge a separate fee for using other facilities, such as library, laboratory or sports facility, excursions, books, stationery and photographic supplies.
Given below is a break-up of the approximate course fee that a student would incur:

University:
Foundation Studies - A$ 9,000 to 14,000 a year
[For Ex: University entrance, preparatory and bridging courses]

Undergraduate:  
Bachelor Degree - A$ 10,000 to 13,500 a year
[For Ex: Courses in arts, business, economics and law]
Laboratory-based Bachelor Degree - A$ 11,000 to 16,500 a year
[For Ex: Science and engineering courses]

Postgraduate:
Graduate Certificates / Graduate Diplomas - A$ 9,000 to 16,000 a year
Masters / Doctoral Degree - A$ 11,000 to 18,500 a year

Vocational Education and Training:
Certificates I - IV / Diploma / Advanced Diploma - A$ 5,500 to 18,000 a year

English Language Training:
Based on Course Duration or Institution - A$ 3,500 to 13,500

Scholarships

Studying in Australia holds a particular appeal to the adventurous student who wishes to have excellent quality education in a multicultural environment. Another incentive for studying in Australia is that the Australian government, educational institutions, and other organizations offer numerous scholarships of varying financial scope.
The Australian Government provides three scholarship programs. The details are given below:

Australian Leadership Awards: This Study Abroad Scholarship provides scholarships for postgraduate students who wish to study in Australia. Opportunities and support for short-term fellowships in specialized fields of research or study are also provided under this scheme. Scholarship awards under this program are granted to students and professionals in the field of social and economic development and policy reform.

Australian Development Scholarships: This is with the cooperation of Australia's partner countries to support studies made to further the fields of good governance, human development, and economic growth. Awardees under this scholarship program are expected to apply the experience and qualifications gained to their home country.

Endeavour Awards: This is granted for citizens from the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas to further their academic careers in Australia. This scholarship program is highly competitive as it accepts applicants from all over the world, wherein there is a maximum of two awardees from any country. Annual awards valued at $30,000 are given purely on the basis of merit.

Other sources for Study Abroad Scholarships in Australia are educational institutions, corporations and other foundations. For each university or educational institution, there are numerous scholarships available in each field of study. A short list of the scholarships one can apply for are given below:

  • A E Ringwood Scholarship for PhD Research in Earth Sciences from the Australian National University
  • Accenture Scholarship in Information Technology and Electrical Engineering from the University of Queensland
  • Adelaide Postgraduate Coursework Scholarships International from the University of Adelaide
  • Beaney Scholarship in Pathology from the University of Melbourne
  • CAMD PhD and M.Sc Scholarships from the University of New South Wales.

Intake

Australia generally has two intakes i.e. February and July, with few Universities offering multiple intake in September & November. It is suggested that you should start making applications ideally 7-8 months prior to the intake.
 University generally takes around 4-6 weeks to process the applications. Documents needed for making an application are CV, SOP, Memos and passing certificates from 10th onwards, two reference letters from colleges / employers and passport copy & IELTS score sheet.
